A few weeks ago we rented a car and wanted to visit the Ventura Flea Market. It was meant to rain on Sunday (day of the market) which should have been a good sign not to go. However, after almost 10 years in England a little bit of rain will not discourage me. It turns out that California’s rain it is a whole other story! It is practically a storm! I am not exaggerating, it was solid rain for 4 hours! Obviously no market traders showed up, I forgot to mentioned that we drove for over 80 miles! Anyway, we found a very good outlet on a way back, spent way too much money and went down the Pacific Coast Highway which is beautiful.
Just a little bit of info: Pacific Coast Highway starts in San Francisco and goes all the way down to San Diego (map) which is a little bit over 800 km (500 miles). It is supposed to be one of the most scenic routes in the world. We only drove for about 50 miles and it amazing! We were lucky as it was really windy, waves were really big and all together it looked very dramatic.
We stopped at Point Magu to take some pictures. It is a tiny beach with a picnic area which doubles as a viewing point.
I definitely recommend for anyone coming to Los Angeles to rent a car and drive up the coast. It is a truly magnificent experience.
